SYNOPSIS.
This is the story of two Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilots, Lts Lloyd H.Johnson and Anthony C.A.Smalley, and their aircraft that collided at 6,000 feet over Evie while on a routine cine camera gun exercise from Hatston on a cold February morning in 1943, resulting in the loss of the two airmen, with one aircraft falling into the sea and another in a field on the Orkney Mainland.
In this film we see the excavation in July 2010 by the Aviation Research Group of Orkney & Shetland, of one of the Seafires that dived into a field in Rendall, and the recovery of the engine and two 20mm Hispano cannons, there is also footage of the relics recovered on display at the Orkney Vintage Rally, interview with an eye witness, and a short service at the airmen`s graves in St.Olaf`s Cemetery by members of A.R.G.O.S and the Kirkwall branch of the Royal British Legion.
